London loses a favourite son

25 January 2016

The starman has returned to the stars. The genius that was Bowie, born Davy Jones. The Brixton lad who changed the world in so many ways has departed the mortal coil. A true world icon, but most importantly a man who changed peoples perceptions of the gender and sexuality more than anyone.

When other artists were worrying about how their sexual preference would lose them the money if publicly known Bowie embraced his androgyny, so much so that it became a moot point. He broke so many taboo's that his writer believes he seamlessly knitted. The free love of the sixties through to the excessive living of the 70's and 80's.

Now i believe his genius was nurtured and moulded because his formative years were in this great old town of London full of libertines where anything goes and everybody is accepted for who they are and not what they are.

So as London sheds a tear for one of the greatest artists of the 20th century we must also feel a duty to embrace Bowies decadent open mindedness and realise that life is about living and through joy and pleasure comes so many beautiful, intelligent and magical things.
